An AI discovery sprint is a structured 2-4 week diagnostic engagement designed to answer the question: "Where should our organization invest in AI?" It maps opportunities across your business functions, assesses data readiness, and delivers a prioritized use-case backlog with estimated ROI.
Discovery is ideal for organizations that know AI matters but aren't sure where to start—or those that have experimented with AI in isolated pockets and want a systematic, organization-wide view. The output is a board-ready report that enables confident investment decisions.
At Alice Labs, we've run discovery sprints for organizations from 50 to 5,000+ employees across private and public sectors. Our methodology combines stakeholder interviews, process analysis, data assessment, and rapid opportunity scoring to deliver actionable insights—not theoretical frameworks.

Everything you need to know about AI discovery
An AI discovery sprint is a structured 2-4 week engagement where we map your organization's AI opportunities, assess data readiness, and deliver a prioritized use-case backlog with ROI estimates. It's designed for organizations that want clarity on where AI creates the most value before committing to implementation.
AI discovery is the diagnostic phase—focused on mapping opportunities and assessing readiness. AI strategy builds on discovery to create a complete roadmap with architecture, governance, and execution plans. Think of discovery as the 'where should we start?' and strategy as the 'how do we get there?' Many clients start with discovery, then proceed to strategy.
Deliverables include: a complete AI opportunity map across your organization, a prioritized use-case backlog (scored by impact, feasibility, and ROI), data readiness assessment, quick-win identification (things you can start this month), and a recommended next-steps roadmap. Everything is presented in a board-ready format.
A focused discovery sprint takes 2-4 weeks. This includes stakeholder interviews (typically 8-15 people across functions), process analysis, data assessment, and synthesis. We deliver findings in a structured workshop with your leadership team.
We interview stakeholders across functions: operations, finance, marketing, sales, HR, IT, and customer service. Ideally, the project has an executive sponsor (CEO, CTO, or CDO) and includes both leadership and frontline team members who understand daily processes. Typically 8-15 participants across the organization.
If you have a specific use case in mind, you might skip discovery and go straight to an AI pilot (2-6 weeks). However, discovery often reveals higher-ROI opportunities that weren't initially on the radar. We've had clients come in wanting chatbots and leave with document automation projects that delivered 10x more value.
We evaluate five dimensions: 1) Data readiness—quality, accessibility, and structure of relevant data. 2) Process maturity—how well-documented and standardized current processes are. 3) Technical infrastructure—systems, integrations, and API availability. 4) Organizational readiness—change management, skills, and culture. 5) Strategic alignment—how AI connects to business objectives.
AI discovery is a fixed-scope engagement. For a single department or function, investment starts from approximately $8,000. An organization-wide discovery across multiple functions typically ranges from $15,000-30,000. We provide a clear price indication after an initial conversation about scope and objectives.
Yes. We conduct discovery sprints both on-site and remotely. Remote discovery uses structured video interviews, digital workshops, and collaborative tools. On-site visits can be valuable for process observation but aren't required. Hybrid formats (remote interviews + one on-site workshop) are our most popular option.
After discovery, you have three paths: 1) Proceed to AI strategy for a comprehensive roadmap. 2) Jump straight to a pilot on the highest-priority use case. 3) Use the findings internally to guide your own AI initiatives. Most clients choose option 1 or 2, and we can start within days of completing discovery.
